Sacrifice

Post by Foxmoan »

I personally would love to see people playing Sacrifice online again. This game was pure gold back in its day, an RTS that broke the mold into little peices and promptly swept them under the rug. What made it soo diffrent is that instead of the usual "Finger of God" way of dealing with every little aspect in the game, you instead controlled your own unit in 3rd person, a Wizard to be more specific. That wizard could cast spells, using souls and mana to summon creatures, build structures, and of course, turn the tide of battle with attack spells. All and all, this in my opinion made the game much more immersive and enjoyable to play, and had beautiful graphics for its time with good voice acting as well (listening to your sarcastic familliar is enjoyable to no end). Id love to post all the info you need about the technical things about the game, but Im not sure how to look all that up really... So instead Ill provide a link to where you can download it in full along with a manual and a patch.

free-game-downloads.mosw.com/abandonware/pc/strategy_games/games_s_sn/sacrifice.html

[EDIT] I just found that the link posed is now a pay site, so ill leave it up, but I will remove it when I find another free site to get it from. (It used to be free, not sure what happened there... Sorry guys)

Ok, edit #2, Im not sure what the polocy on torrens are on this site, but this is one I took the time and tested myself. Its well seeded and its also 100% safe scaned with Avera and Malware Bytes. If this still isnt acceptable, im willing to throw in the towel on this one...

Sorry, I tried to access that link, and it requires payment which is something that I am not going to do. If the game requires its own dedicated server to run the code on, then we can't do that here. Even trying to access the manual requires payment, so unless you can provide some alternative, I'm afraid we can't help...

I was curious to see if you had responded back, and I almost missed the fact that you had edited your original post. The forum software is pretty decent stuff, but the base system doesn't update edited posts as being "new". I think there is a mod for it that does that but... thats besides the point.

What we allow... perhaps more to the point is what we don't allow. We don't allow porn, and we don't allow spammers. I constantly delete accounts (mostly from Russia and the Ukraine) and I've banned entire ISP ranges and domains. In the forums, I *prefer* people to keep a level head and to try to keep their tempers and bad language out. For the most part, the users here (at least in the forums) have been a decent bunch. (Unlike some of the langauge that goes on in the CDROM lobbies, but we tend to ignore that side of it anyway.. there is that line of course, and if crossed... well.. lets not go there) :)

With that said, Reverb... and the name we grew from (SlideGamers) has always endevored to be as helpful as possible. We love suggestions and making improvements. In a lot of cases, the games here are just plain OLD. And for the most part, the manufacturers of those same games... the ones you paid money for... have given up not only on the users, but also on the games.

While it may be legally piracy... I say shame on them.

So hell ya.. if you have a torrent for someplace where this is at then go for it and post it. Of course that doesn't guarantee that we will be able to actually RUN it here, but it doesn't stop us from trying.

Several forum posts link to places where you can download various games from (that we support here of course) and as far as I am concerned, I am not the pirate police. When the manufacturers walk away from providing what the people have paid for then to me it makes it fair game. I could care less WHERE you people get your stuff from (and usually for the most part the people that play these games bought them years ago anyway), what I care about is that you have a decent place to play them at.

And thats what we are trying to provide.

Thanks for your support on this and really, the game acually is abandonware because the parent company crapped out because of lackluster sales (the game broke the mold THAT much) and also, sorry for not reposing along with my edits. That site I got the game from used to provide it for free, but are now spewing something about needing to support their servers so there making you pay for bandwith, not the game. Crock of crap in my opinion. In any case, if the game can be supported Id like to play with people, even if I was never all that good at it myself, lol.

Sadly, I have downloaded your torrent and installed the game. It doesn't look like it will be compatable with our lobby system. However I did take an extra step and went into the games IRC channel, and spoke to several people there. I was provided with this link that should be able to help you out. http://sacpro.forumotion.com/forum.htm

Sorry I couldnt do more.
